Tony Finau What’s In The Bag? 2024 Update
We take a closer look at the American's equipment line-up
Tony Finau What's In The Bag?
America's Tony Finau was a Nike staffer up until August 2016, when the company announced that it would no longer make golf equipment. Like a number of Nike players, Finau then became a free agent. However, he then opted to sign with Ping – and he's been with the equipment manufacturer ever since. Let's take a closer look inside the Ryder Cupper's bag.
Driver

Starting at the top of the bag, Finau plays the Ping G430 LST driver, 9° (set to a big minus), which is the low-spin version in the Ping G430 range. The Mitsubishi Diamana D+ Limited 70 TX shaft is tipped 1.5 inches, and the driver has a swingweight of D-6; it also measures 45.25 inches, which is quite long. Given that Finau is six-foot three, this is actually not that surprising.
The Ping G430 LST driver made our editor's choice awards in 2023; it's a hugely impressive driver that does a great job of balancing distance with consistency, and it offers plenty of forgiveness, too. You'll find this model on our list of the best golf drivers for distance 2024.
Fairway Woods
What Fairway Wood Does Tony Finau Use?
Finau has a preference for Callaway when it comes to his fairway, with the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond T model taking a spot in his bag. In the past, the American has played with a Ping G400 Stretch, but this has come out for the Callaway model, which has 14° of loft and a Mitsubishi Diamana D+ Limited 80 TX shaft.
The Triple Diamond model is very popular out on Tour, a compact club that's best suited to stronger players who are looking for a penetrating ball flight with lower spin.
Irons
What Irons Does Tony Finau Use?
Finau's longest iron in the bag is also the only Nike club that remains, a Nike Vapor Fly Pro three-iron. It has a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 105 Hybrid X shaft. He then has a set of the Ping Blueprint irons (4-PW). The Blueprint irons have one of the best-looking and feeling bladed irons on the market, although they have since been replaced by the Blueprint T irons. Finau has these irons fitted with the Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 120 TX shafts.

Admittedly for most of us amateurs, these irons would be extremely difficult to hit well consistently, but the top players like Finau will enjoy the feel, control and shot-shaping that they offer.
Wedges
What Wedges Does Tony Finau Use?
At the bottom end of the bag, Finau carries a Ping S159 wedge, 50°, a Ping Glide 4.0, 56°, and a Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks Proto, 60°. The Ping Glide 4.0 wedges deliver high levels of spin, and they look very inviting behind the ball. You'll find them on our list of the best golf wedges. Meanwhile, the Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks prototype is a model that we often see in a lot of other Tour bags, including that of Tyrrell Hatton.
Putter
What Putter Does Tony Finau Use?
The final club in Finau's bag is the Ping PLD Anser 2 Prototype putter, which is a move away from the Piretti prototype that had been in his bag for a long time. The Anser 2 is a classic shape. Finau's model is 37 inches in length with 3.5° loft, and it has a Garsen Ultimate grip.
Finau switched putters around July 2021. “We started by showing Tony about five to six head options we thought he might like and quickly noticed in the testing process that the extra offset of the Anser hosel allowed him to set his hands more neutral at address,” said Ping Tour rep Kenton Oates.
Ball
What Ball Does Tony Finau Use?
Finau plays the Titleist Pro V1 Left Dot ball, which is designed for players seeking a more penetrating trajectory with lower long-game spin than Pro V1 but with comparable greenside control and soft feel. Whilst we haven't been able to test the Left Dot version of the ball yet, the regular Titleist Pro V1 ball got five stars in our review and it is easy to see why. Finau has his marked with his TF logo.
Apparel/Shoes
What Shoes Does Tony Finau Wear?
It's not hard to spot the American on the golf course, not just because of his height, but because he also's no stranger to sporting eye-catching golf shoes. Finau wears Nike clothing and Nike golf shoes. This pair would be a perfect example of his liking for a shoe that stands out and offers a bit of color and attitude – they're the Nike Air Jordan Low 1 G shoes.
