Best traditional style

The Avant is part of Puma's 2024 women's shoe collection. We were excited to get our hands on a pair and put them to the test.

While other shoes like the G/FORE MG4x2, FootJoy Pro/SL and Duca del Cosma Alesi have a higher midsole to promote their sporty look, the Avant is low-profile with strategically placed ridges and lugs on the sole for traction.

Available in two colorways, white/deep navy or white/deep navy/sand dune, the Avant combines modern and traditional aesthetics into a simple understated design with a small metal Puma badge on the side.

Contrasting to Ecco’s Biom C4, the shoe's leather upper actually isn't that soft touch. Nonetheless, we experience zero issues with comfort or rubbing during testing over 18 holes—that's thanks to the shoe's excellent cushioning. The shoes also come with a one year waterproof guarantee, although the white colorway won't be ideal for winter conditions.

Most unique style

G/FORE is already notorious for creating stand-out products with a vibrant, modern aesthetic...and the G.112 is quintessential of this brand's style.

Let's first address the elephant in the room: the colors and kiltie aren't for everyone. Though, the bright colors are definitely unique and will make you stand out on the course. If that's not your cup of tea, you the G.112 is also available in tamer colorways.

Looks aside, once we put the shoes on, we found them very comfortable and comparable to the Ducal del Cosma’s Alesi and Ecco’s LT1.They are a fairly narrow fit, so if you've got wide feet it might be worth sizing up. We previously tested another pair of G/FORE—the Perf Dsrpt - and we're big fans of the brand's soft foam footbed with a ripple design that massages your foot.

Best sneaker style

In testing, the first thing we noticed was the heel-strike at the back which juts out. It's designed to offer golfers more stability when swinging and walking. Visually, we weren't fans of the heel design; it looked chunky and didn't fit with the stylish aesthetic, like Duca del Cosma’s Alesi model. Of course, looks aren't everything and we were impressed by the performance benefits this feature delivered.

We found the shoes fitted true to size and were very comfortable, almost on par with Ecco's Biom C4—thanks to the combination of the heel-strike, high shock absorption midsole and Duca del Cosma's own Airplay 15 sole technology.

The Olivera comes in at the top end of the market and naturally comes with a hefty price tag. That said, you're still getting bang for your buck as these shoes do deliver on both performance and aesthetics.

Best looking

Next up we have the LT1 shoe from Ecco. Starting with the looks, we think these look great - slick and stylish. The LT1’s are available in three colors all of a light variety; white with a clear sole, white with a bubble pink sole and a matcha green with a gum sole. Of course dirt may be an issue with these light colors but this is only a minor point.

Moving on the main technology to discuss here is Lytr. Lytr is an advanced bounce and rebound foam that's embedded into the sole via its Fluidform technology. The result is a versatile shoe that works in all contexts, and offers outstanding comfort, arguably the best in the business.

In testing, we found the LT1s to fit very well and provided good comfort and support, thanks to the Ecco's Ortholite insole. Plus, if you do run into issues with fit and feel, the Ortholite is removable so you can always swap it out. This makes it a good shoe to consider if you have wider feet. Finally these shoes are 100% waterproof.

Most versatile

Moving from the G/FORE G.112 shoe above, to more of a traditional golf shoe design, the MG4x2 is a shoe we are big fans of. Right out of the box we found the shoes remarkably comfortable. We had zero blisters or issues wearing them in, even though it has been recommended that you should go half a size up.

Despite being a spikeless design, the sawtooth traction pattern performed solidly in testing, giving good flexibility and grip, whilst the stability was sufficient as well. We tested these just after it had stopped raining and the shoes remained unaffected and unstained. This is thanks to the water and stain resistant upper which is fused with an internal waterproof lining, excellent design elements.

Finally we love the look of these shoes. Given the trainer-like style we can happily say that these golf shoes are truly multi-occasion wear. They can transition seamlessly from the course, to the bar, and away from the course too. Additionally there are loads of unique colors and finishes to choose from as well.

Best arch support

This third generation Skechers GO Golf Max women’s golf shoe is ultra comfortable and is one of the best women’s golf shoes of this year. It’s packed with patented technologies that give it a soft and lightweight feel. We loved this shoe in testing and when it comes to the most comfortable golf shoes for women this offering from Skechers has to be in the conversation.

As you would expect with Skechers, they have used their extensive knowledge and podiatrist input to develop the sole of the shoe to be as comfortable as possible, for any foot shape. This is particularly beneficial for those with wide feet or who suffer from blisters, bunions, and other foot issues. The insole molds to your foot and adds to a feeling of security on the ground when walking and during the swing.

Some other excellent elements to mention include the inner sole is washable to keep shoes smelling fresh, the waterproof design and one-year warranty, and also we really like the looks of this shoe as well.

Best lightweight

New Balance’s 574 Greens V2 golf shoe is inspired by the original Court Classics 574 model known for its comfort and durability. Resembling a running shoe, it has low-profile trainer-like styling, with a suede-like upper.

We were particularly impressed with the comfort on offer here thanks to the slightly dropped midsole, and CUSH+ insole, which worked very well in testing. The NDurance rubber outsole, designed to move naturally with your foot, features numerous nubs for excellent grip and a toe cap for added support and durability.

Available in four color options—white/blue, light gray, navy/white, and sand/pink—the shoe looks great in a variety of situations, and also boasts a waterproof microfibre leather upper and a two-year waterproof warranty.

Best breathability

Our final pick here is the Puma Fusion Crush Sport shoe which also fits nicely into our best pink golf shoes guide.

One of the most lightweight and comfortable shoes we have ever tested, they are actually similar to running shoes or trainers. Achieving a balance between stability and breathability, Puma has created a shoe that fits well, especially for those searching for wide golf shoes. For other women, it might be worth downsizing, as they are fairly roomy in the toe area.

The grip and traction was sufficient thanks to the soft rubber outsole, and we liked the heel and arch support too. They are also waterproof and given their versatility to be used anywhere, and for a variety of activities, we think they offer outstanding value, for golfers and non-golfers alike.

How we test golf shoes

The Golf Monthly team are not podiatrists but we do know a seriously comfortable and supportive spikeless golf shoe when we try one. How to choose a golf shoe

Buying golf shoes can sometimes be an overwhelming task. There are plenty of things to consider when looking to purchase your next pair of golf shoes and with all the technology that's on the market right now, it can be a really difficult job getting the right pair of shoes for your needs. From comfort right down to breathability, we've set out a few key points that'll help you in your buying decision.

1. Comfort

As you would expect, when it comes to the most breathable golf shoes, comfort is king. As we stride the fairways and greens, an uncomfortable pair can distract us from our game. We recommend trying on some models before you buy to see what you like the feel of, and be aware of some models that have specific foam technologies, or specific sole designs that are designed to house your feet in all day comfort.

2. Grip/Stability/Traction

All three of these things are important because they allow you to commit to golf swings and play with confidence. If a pair doesn't deliver on these then you may slip, causing a bad shot or even worse, a bad injury.
